Statement

Within the past years my work has evolved from video installations to performative interventions in public space, to finally performances that are constructed for a more traditional theatrical setting: Driven by the fascination to bring my work into a “ live context”, my interest has so shifted to a performing arts context and space, the stage. Starting point of my artistic research is the motivation to stage. (to explore the concept of  “mise en scene”.  )
This idea has been present ever since: within my previous video works as well as within my actions in public space or a performance.
What implies this act of staging and with which tools do we read it?
In which ways is it traceable even outside the theatrical context?

In this sense it is not only the medium dance or performance as such that I want to explore but also the space that surrounds it, the context that frames it:  the theater space .
What parameters define that theater space? And from where comes my need to deconstruct it?

Marked by my previous works as a visual artist, I put emphasis on the visual qualities of my performance work;  “I am searching for the image within a performative representation”:
(Images like figurative paintings of expressive emotional states, like baroque paintings for example, which my previous piece “ I feel sick and vulnerable but I do it anyhow” is based on; images of icons;  images that I take out of movies, such as silent movies for example; or simply “internal images” that I carry within my head.) What fascinates me about these images is the emotional state of the figure and how it is represented. However I am not trying to psychologically explore those states but rather want to stylize them in an aesthetic way.
I am searching for a sense of time that is more of a filmic kind and that “frames “ the performance and leads the spectator’s gaze in such a way that it could be leading through a film.

In the solo “excerpts of confusion” questions like above mentioned are raised. Starting point is the state of confusion, how to embody it and how to visualize it. The intention is not to actually “live” that state but rather to suggest it in order to evoke new impulses and sensations. The concept of the Pathos is playing an important role.
An invisible world that wants to become visible: an imaginative, confusing and blurry space.
Excerpts of confusion can be seen like a state of dream. It affects like a dream in the sense that  it “evolves into different directions” at the same time. It is searching for new realities beyond a physical and visible world that seems familiar to us.  Its timing and rhythm aims to trigger a blurry perception within the spectator.
